Thanks all. I spoke with CPS again and filed a new warranty claim for the second pair of floats. We'll see how ROTAX responds - likely it will be months before I know. I really have come to like the 912 over the past 300 hours, but ROTAX's warranty response is positively Byzantine.

Go to this page and make sure you file an Service Information report. Call Bryan Toepher at CPS. CPS is under new management and is doing much better and the responses times and comments should be much quicker. Anyone with any Rotax problem should always fill out a SIR (service information report) because that is the only way Rotax will know. It isn't up to the Service centers to do this for everyone and they don't. You can fill this out online and a copy goes right to the Rotax Flying and Safety club for warranty considerations and another copy directly to Rotax. Once filled out and sent then a response will be forth coming. If you fail to fill out the information then people have no one to blame, but themselves.

This can be filled out right online and then hit send.

Here we go again! The second pair of officially-approved ROTAX/BING 912 replacement floats that I received 5 months ago have just failed their latest weight check (4.9 g and 6.3 g each float!). Would you believe that ROTAX/CPS still hasn't honored my warranty claim from my last set of failed replacement floats (its been 5+ months now) despite my submitting all of the appropriate forms and the old floats! Apparently they are developing a "new warranty form". The ROTAX 912 float saga continues...

BTW, if you are flying along and start getting occasional wiffs of fuel odor in the cockpit, you may be dealing with a heavy float(s) - so check them. I now carry an extra pair of floats and an extra rectifier/regulator as spare ROTAX parts in my RV-12.

    Hi David,

Sorry you're having this issue. The float warranty went through CPS, but the hold up is up above their head. I understand this was addressed, but it's a wait and see. Are you buying the floats from CPS and do they have the double dot marks on them? Just make sure someone didn't goof. My bet is these have the double dot. Call Brian at CPS and explain the problem.

    Roger -

Thank you for your response. Yes, I have been and continue to work with CPS/Brian on this matter. I continue to "wait and see" (5+ months now). I realize the problem is at ROTAX. ROTAX's bizantine and customer unfriendly warranty procedures (yet another new form to fill out!) are severely tarnishing what is otherwise a good engine (if one ignores the Ducati rectifier/regulator and sinking Bing float issues).

ps - The most recently failed floats are "two dot" floats that are @ 5 months old with 75 hours (Hobbs) on them exclusively using Shell/Chevron 91 octane mogas (containing <10% ethanol).
