I'm trying not to spend $200 on new floats. Seems ridiculous that carb floats would be an expendable item in this day and age...

    Hi James,

The floats have to be in fuel a long time. Just short while won't work. Just put the floats in and don't worry about them anymore. If you do eventually notice a fuel smell, rough running engine at idle or fuel in the vent tube and or drip tray then weigh them. Other than that I wouldn't worry.

Am I wrong but......OP has floats that weigh 12.3gr/pair? Rotax says 7.0gr for the PAIR allowed?

I think he meant 6.1g for the Pair in the Right Carburetor
and 6.2g for the pair in the Left Carb.
That would be 12.3g for Both Pair, or all 4 floats.
Carb floats were weighed 8 months ago during condition inspection as follows – 6.1g (R) 6.2g (L).
