Grey cream in my oil tank

Hi Guys,

When I changed my oil (900 hours on 912 ULS, last did 50 hours ago), I have been suprised to see some grey cream at the end of the plug:



Then, I decided to open the oil tank to clean it:



I found kind a cream, 1-2 mm depth, smooth.; So I clean it with a paper:



The oil filter has been open: nothing. The magnet plug nothing neither. Last cleaning of the oil tank has been done 200 hours ago (some litlle standard deposite at the bottom; nothing to do with that grey cream). I fly with no leaded gas. My motor run absolutly normal (Pressure, temps, start...)

-Any idea where that could from?

    you use the 100LL??
    I've already seen this with the use of the 100LL

    Tu utilise de la 100LL ??

    Pas une goutte de 100LL depuis +90 heures!
    Not a drop of 100LL since +90 hours. And the last oil change (50 hours ago), I did not notice the grey cream on my plug.

    Water sinks!
    Do you get over 100°C at least once on every flight?
    Compustion products include a lot of water.
    100°C+ will boil the water out of the Oil.

    To confirm, get some "Water Finding Paste" used in the Diesel fuel industry.
    The smallest 2oz. tube is about 200 times more than you need.

    Hint: Go to anyplace that services diesel trucks and they will test it for you if you ask nicely.
    Any trucker worth his weight will have some to test for water in the fuel tanks.

    If the Grey Cream turns the Grey paste Green or Red, it is water.

    A little water in the oil is not uncommon and not a disaster.
    It will disperse once you restart the engine and settle out a few hours after you stop.

    You probably don't want to think about the Grey Cream that you can't see sitting in the bottom of the Crankcase.
    This is why you should run the engine up to 50°C immediately before changing the oil.

    Awful grey to be water. Sure looks like lead to me. If you used 100LL within the last 200 hrs. since you cleaned the tank it may have finally come out of even come from the bottom of the crankcase. I would clean the tank and just keep an eye on it next oil change. When draining oil the oil temp can have an impact on what come out off the bottom. Same when using a Quick drain. It's slow to drain and doesn't have much of a flushing action during a drain.

    My system does not allow viewing his offsite photos.
    Water emulsified with Oil looks nasty and may not settle to a clear state.

    The Water Paste would answer the question.
    Or... place some of the goo in a small pan and set it in the oven for an hour or so at 250°F.
    If it clears up, it was probably water. If not maybe Lead.

    In either case, there is nothing to do and not worth worrying about.
    Change your Oil on schedule and sleep well.
