Anyone used a Sky-Tec starter for a Rotax 912 ULS? Sky-Tec claims they have a direct replacement that turns the engine 10% faster than the original Rotax starter.

I have a Sky-Tec starter on a 912 ULS. Replaced an old black starter on the Rotax. It is a night and day difference, really spins the engine and cranks right away.

    Hi Ron,

Is the Skytec starter the same size as the Black Rotax starter? I need to replace the starter on my C42 and the heavy duty Rotax is too long to fit!

    Thanks in advance.

Any one know if this will fit in a kitfox4 cowl? And experience with 912 s engine. I have the black starter. Always been a bit hard to start when cold. Thanks

I just had an owner that wanted me to install the Skytec in his Rans Coyote II. His was a 1998 (black starter) 912ULS. So far so good. No leaks and seems to kick the engine much better than the old starter. Skytec claims it's the same as a Rotax one, but I'm not going to compare because I truly don't know any differences. I wouldn't have done this except it is an amateur built plane. I tend to stay with Rotax parts and not use aftermarket. There have been in the past small difference that the aftermarket people didn't know about and caused issues with some parts. Some are not up to the Rotax standard or have the hours of testing.

The cold morning starts is why this owner wanted it done to. Seems to work.

Out of curiosity, what is the issue with cold morning starts? Is it slow to turn? Crank but not fire? Something else that requires a new starter?
