My engine is 912ULS powering an ICP Savannah Ser. 50.
I've just installed a new 12V battery and a refurbished starter supposed to be OK.
When the engine is at ambient temperature, as before flight, starting is normal.
When the engine is shut off after flight, and is still hot, it won't restart---the starting revs are then much too slow.
However, when I let the engine cool off for 20 min or so, it again starts normally.

What can the problem be? (My A&P seems to be at a loss and I don't want him to start replacing everything.)
Thank you.

What year engine is this? Is the engine hard to hand prop after it is shutdown?
You may have crankcase fretting which binds up the engine and would make it really hard to turn over.

    In Answer to Roger Lee:
The engine dates from May 2005. It has logged about 1300 hrs.
Hand propping, as required for engine oil level inspection, is OK and indicates good compression.
I had a recent oil change and the oil clinging to the dipstick is clear and clean. The fuel consumption is normal too. What do these facts say about the possibility of crankcase fretting?
Next week I'll have an opportunity to hand prop immediately following a hot shutdown, which I will use. Thanks for the idea.
    Thank you for now.

With crankcase fretting the engine turns normal when cold. Just give it a shot after you land and it's hot.

After 3 months+ from first posting about the issue, and after several attempts to fix it by various electrical measures, I'm sorry to say it's still there, and laughing. It seems this needs creative thinking, outside the box. See it as a challenge.

Please comment on the Hot hand propping force test that Roger suggested. Hard? Easy?

What is the Battery Voltage just before the Hot Start Attempt?. And after the attempt?
Are all the Battery Cables secure? Are you sure you're sure?

Hot start issues can be fuel related.
It might be a vapor lock issue with the hot engine.
Are your fuel lines well clear of the exhaust?
    Are they in Fire Sleeving?

Do you have an Aux Electric Fuel Pump?
Do you have a Fuel return line installed?

Try squirting a little fuel or starter fluid down the Carb throats.
If it fires up momentarily, suspect a fuel related problem.
