Hi Rotax Gurus,

I need some advice about my TCU on a 2018, 914 ULS please:

About a week ago I was flying my plane as normal. Kitfox 7 SS 914ULS, 60 hours on the engine. Needed to climb steeply through a gap in the clouds, so added some extra power. Had a TCU red warning light come on (probably from an over boost situation I suspected). Reduced power, landed at the destination and red light stayed on. Flying back, switched on the master and now both the red and orange lights are permanently on.

Flew home on minimum power. Plugged in my computer and read the log. There was a 0.8 sec overboost recorded and thats it. all sensors working and logging as normal. Waste gate is adjusted right and operates normally. Cycling when master on, humming with engine off, opening when throttle pushed in.

Did an engine start and all is working again as predicted at all revs. All sensors normal and reading fine. Did a take off. Boost came up to 40 Inches of Hg and stayed there at 5500 RPM. Engine is cool and all readings in the green. Turbo spinning and sounding beautiful, lots of power. Air box temp and pressure within limits all the time. RPM not more than 5500 and throttle position sensor working as calibrated.

Landed, took all the Rotax sensors off, blew out the contacts with compressed air and WD40. Plugged them back in and still both lights are on all the time. They dont blink or cycle or flicker. They are just on all the time. But everything is working perfect.

What am I missing ??

Thanks in advance

Amer

A few months back I had a similar problem with the TCU lites.
Engine 14 months old & 180 hrs, In a gyrocopter & mounted in a well ventilated area.
    No exceedences were recorded.
Checked all sensors & connections & loom as you have done.
Installed a new TCU & problem gone. Reinstalled the old one again & problem returned. Sent the faulty one away & waiting to hear back.
Have now flown 80 hrs on the new one and everythings fine.
Might be worth it if you could borrow one & give it a try.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Amer.
Could you let me know how you get on.
I just heard my presumably faulty one is on its way back from the Rotax agent & they found no faults. I will fit it again & see if the light issues return.
We have just now had a second machine with the same problem.
Out of interest are your warning lights LED or Incandescent.

    Thanks
    Peter
