A friend at the airport asked for help on rebuilding a crashed Kitfox with a 914UL engine. It does not have a slipper clutch and so the prop-strike check will require a crankshaft distortion check. Is this the wrong place for me to ask if anyone is willing to rent or loan the toolkit that I'm not likely ever use again? Rotax #877 520.

Check the Rotax service centers. They rent out at times.

Thank you, Roger. The owner of the aircraft thought I needed to add this toolset to my collection so we worked out a deal and the order from CPS was placed this morning. Having the right tools for the job, especially on an aircraft, is always the best idea.

How right you are. And that is why I will be completing the "Engine check after propeller strike incidents" inspection checklist as found in Chap. 05-50-00, 1) Unscheduled Maintenance Checks found in the Rotax Line Maintenance Manual. In my case, the engine does not have an overload clutch and so that is why the crankshaft distortion check is necessary. We find that procedure in Chap. 72-00-00 of the Heavy Maintenance Manual. I'm retired U.S. Air Force and after spending that much time using tech orders (maintenance manuals) and living the life of the checklist I would never work any other way.
