Do as Rob said. Use the proper alignment tool. That's the thing with working on a Rotax. It isn't a Continental or a Lycoming or anything else and using improper tools or techniques can cost you a lot of money. Someone with a lot of Rotax experience might be able to take a shortcut occasionally, but someone new will just cause expensive damage.

Thanks guys, tremendously helpful. I've been studying the Heavy maintenance manual and it seems fairly straight forward, I've ordered parts and the alignment tool. Only thing I can't figure out is the meaning of "OT" in the wording "Adjust the piston of the cylinder head that should be assembled on OT". I'm assuming this is TDC for every piston for the respective cylinder I'll be working on. Being remote, I have no choice but to do this work myself.

Also thinking about it, I'm worried I may have caused this blow out. I changed the magnetic plug last night for the newer type, and while working to get tools etc I lost a bit of oil out of the plug, enough to run down the inside of the cowling and create a little puddle on the floor. I checked the manual and it said no purge necessary, should I have purged? Since it's only the rod seals on that side of the engine that blew out, I'm suspicious. But seals are 15 years old, so I'm sure they're dry.

Just concerned there may be other damage im unaware of. Although the motor ran perfect all the way to shut down.

That little bit that came out the mag plug hole isn't an issue. If the engine is cold from sitting over night you may not get any oil out that hole. If it is warm you just about always will. I have a little rubber stopper I put there while looking at and cleaning the plug and I always place a towel under it just in case. Keeps from having to clean up a mess and many times that oil may go down into the cooler fins then you have to clean them out. Prevention of a mess is far easier than cleaning one up.

OT is a translation error, it should be TDC (of the compression stroke).
This has been corrected for the next revision and in the 915 HMM.
