What is this about?
Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process, excessive application of LOCTITE at the sprag clutch housing and/or oil spray nozzle may lead to blockage of the nozzle. This could lead to inadequate cooling and possible damage to both of the generators.
The classification of this mandatory Service Bulletin has been changed to a mandatory Alert Service Bulletin due to the fact that the failure mechanism has been re-evaluated to include immediate action as described before flight!
What you need to do:
If you own, operate, distribute, or service ROTAX® 912 i, 915 i, or 916 i engines within the specified serial number range listed in either the certified or non-certified Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) documents, or if you have spare parts listed in the Alert Service Bulletin (ASB), you are required to take immediate action.
(1) Review the Alert Service Bulletin (ASB)
- Determine if your engine or spare parts are affected.
- The serial numbers of the affected engine types are listed in the certified version of the latest Alert Service Bulletin. ASB-912 i-016 R1 / ASB-915 i-016 R1 / ASB-916 i-006 R1
- The affected serial numbers are provided in Chapter 4) Appendix of the ASB. To quickly locate specific serial numbers, use the search function (Ctrl+F) within the PDF version of the ASB.
(2) Check engine serial numbers and production dates against the affected engine list.
(3) Check for any prior installation of the overhaul kits listed in the Alert Service Bulletin.
Deadline for Compliance:
- Before each flight verify the availability of the battery backup function, until the oil spray nozzle check has been conducted, see also section 3.3.
