There is a cable available the cost is the issue
I am the only one out here inAustralia that needs one so I can not share the cost
I can not get my head around why the cable is so much seeing that therewould only be a few people running this prograhm as well as the fact that it does very little

I am in the same position, it's a shame it's so hard to get a cable or a solution. I believe that this is a big problem, a carburetor overhaul for example could require a re-calibration of the throttle position sensor. This is simply impossible with the old TCU, and upgrading the TCU just because Rotax decided the old version shouldn't be touched without a special cable makes it ridiculous expensive in my opinion while a carburetor overhaul could be required for safety reasons.
The Rotax head office in Austria is sending me to Rotax Franz in Germany. Rotax Franz in Germany send me an email that the old cable is just not available anymore.
I am not sure what I can say on this forum without breaking the rules, but I would like to get in contact with you and/or other people that face this issue or perhaps have a cable. I got my hands on another old TCU and trying to see if I can find a solution myself. It looks like the old TCU is just talking rs232 like the newer type of TCU, so the dongle is just talking rs232 on both ends.
I wrote some software today to try and talk with the TCU. I am able to connect with the TCU and talk with it, but I am missing the information about what information the TCU expects. As both ends seem to talk rs232, it should heoretically be possible to share a dongle over the internet and be fully legal without the requirement of reverse engineering the TCU and/or dongle.
I wonder if there is a possibilty to get in contact, I am looking for the option to send you a private message to exchange contact information, but can't find such an option on this forum.

Hi Mark,
Have you tried to connect to TCU with an ordinary USB-RS232 converter with FTDI chip? (Not Rotax.)
I have been making the TCU setting with a cheap converter that I bought from Aliexpress for a very long time and I had no problems. (Only FTDI chip works.)
I'm not sure if it works on older TCUs, but this information may perhaps give an idea. The old model dongle maybe had a chip different from FTDI. Maybe you should try with a converters has different chip.

If you cannot find one locally, the 966675 cable is still in stock at the Canadian distributor ( as mentioned above )
