I have Rotax 80 & 100 HP engines (2 airplanes).  Neither is ready for an oil change, but if and when I need to ADD oil or Change oil, is there another engine oil recommendation in place of the AeroShell Sport Plus 4?

What’s wrong with AeroShell Sport Plus 4?

That’s what I use. It is designed for both the engine AND the reduction drive box.

Agreed, trying to save a few bucks on oil when we are Pilots and spend far too much money anyway..why bother.

Having said that if you are caught short somewhere any Oil that meets the Rotax specs.

see SI-912-06 for a list but basically API-SG or better 10w-40...

The critical thing is to not use the traditional "ashless aviation oils"

I just use Aeroshell Sport Plus 4, and carry a couple of liters with me when I'm away from home.  Only had two oil changes so far, and both times, the oil tank was clean as a whistle, even though I burn 100LL about 25% of the time.  Oil is cheap!

Did you actually disassemble the oil tank during each oil change?

How many hours did you have between changes?

I didn't the first time, since it had been done just before I purchased the plane, and at that point, 100% of the hours since the oil change were with auto fuel.  That change was done at 25 hours, just because it was a new airplane to me, with a low-time engine that had sat for a while.  I disassembled the tank to thoroughly clean it the second time I changed the oil, during my annual condition inspection.  The oil at that point had about 35 hours since the last change, and had run maybe 15 total gallons of 100LL during that time.  Given how clean everything was, I will probably change at 50 hours next time.  (I'm hauling auto gas to the airport instead of using 100LL.)
