plug screw 240234
I don't want to remove this plug but I have a slow seep/leak there that I need to stop. If it has to be removed/replaced will this necessitate an air purge of the oil system?

No you won't. I would have a rubber cork/plug and when you pull it out immediately plug the hole to keep from making a big oily mess. Now you have time to clean the threads and apply some Loctite 243. Coat the threads and don't just use a drop. This will stop your oozing oil leak. Be quick when you remove the rubber plug to keep the the oil mess to a minimum. Torque to 26 ft/lbs.

The only thing I would add is - before reassembly either anneal the copper washer or purchase/replace with a new one.

Hi guys...OK, this plug is on the return pressure side, not the pick up or suction side of the oil pump. Only thing that will happen here is you will get some oil drain from what has collected in the crankcase. Remember it is a "dry sump" engine and there is little to no oil there in normal operation (running). Some may collect there with drainage from your valve train depending on how long it has been sitting. All the bulk of your oil is in the lines and tank. please replace the copper sealing washer. This is most likely the cause of your leak in the first place.
Cheers.

This is why I use my rubber plug. I hate cleaning up oil messes. LOL
