You are correct and initially I did volunteer to do it myself but my A&P would not signoff re-installing it if I did the build. And being the insurance is paying I might as well let someone with skills/experience do it.

I'm concerned about that figure of 15.3V in your original post. You should never see it that high. That is enough to dry the battery out. Max charge voltage normally should be 14.4V. 15.3V could also be nasty for the avionics.

So new battery arrived yesterday. Decided before I install it I will try and verify that that is the problem. I connect my battery booster and the engine turns over. Ok, swap out the battery. Engine fires right up. Let it run for a bit and getting good volts. A little over 12 at idle. Turn on all the lights and avionics. At idle getting just below 12 volts. A little more power and voltage goes up in normal range. Let it run till things warm up(not that long as it was 60 degrees). Shut everything down and try restart, fires right up. So things look good. Too windy to fly today but will do more testing.
