Greetings,

Is anyone using the in-flight adjustable Ivoprop on a 912UL, or even the ground adjustable Ivoprop?  I'm running a Warp Drive now, but could benefit from in-flight adjustment.  It just seems like I can't find much about Ivoprops on 912 engines.

Thanks,

Rusty

Are you allowed to have an in flight adjustable prop on your plane? No matter what the answer there are better props than the Warp Drive.During a big prop research project we determined the Warp suffered more than any other prop in climb.

The plane is a Sonex Onex, and there's no reason it wouldn't be allowed to have an IFA prop.  It would be a problem for a "Sport Pilot" but not for the plane.  As for the Warp Drive, the plane got a lot of hand-me-down parts, so mostly using what I already had.  I love Warp Drive for their durability on a pusher, but that's not the primary requirement for the Onex.  Climb and cruise are both better than expected, just not at the same pitch setting :-)

I find warp drive and IVO props are good  one thing I find is most people over prop there motors when you only have 80 to 100 hp you can only move a certain amount of air  blade aera comes to play  warp drive  many people run 3 blades  so they run short blades  as there is too much blade aera  so if you fit a 2 blade hub you have the same disc but 2/3 the blade aera  and 2/3 the frontal aera so less dag  the wins are you can run a longer blade and get better tip speeds with the longer blade you can have more pitch  that gives a better climb as a larger disc and better cruise as a better pitch. Often going to 2 blades people no longer want the in-flight adjustable.  IVO props work very well and don't over prop your motor  hope this helps

The major compromise for the Onex is that it's made to run a 54" 2-blade prop with their Aerovee "80 HP" engine.  I'm running a 60" 3-blade Warp, which leaves me wishing for more ground clearance.  Unless I eventually go to a taller main gear, 60" is the absolute max diameter I can run.

I guess the real question is whether I'd be better off with a 60" diameter IFA Ivoprop, compared to my fixed Warp Drive.   I do know that there are other prop options, but probably not in my budget.
