Greetings,

Has anyone tried these, and compared the readings with what you had with the standard resistive temp sensors?  The Dynon D180 handles the resistive sensors just fine, but it uses up two general purpose inputs that I could use for something else.  If these work well, I'd be able to use the dedicated CHT thermocouple channels, and free up the general purpose inputs for other uses.

Thanks,

Yes, I have been using similar Type K thermocouples in my 912 for 10 years now. They have worked consistently well.  The only issue I had at first was to make sure that the tips made good contact with the end of the socket. The ones I have are not spring loaded, unlike the ones in the link that you posted. I applied plenty of heat-conducting paste to mine. If one of them is not making contact it will show a temperature several degrees lower than the other one. Once they are in place and making good contact they never need attention.

Once the engine is warm my CHT probes generally show a temperature that is within a few degrees of the oil temperature.

I've only ever used the Type K sensors because the MGL engine gauge that I have does not accept the resistive inputs.

Good to know.  There's certainly no reason they wouldn't work, but I wonder if maybe they will work better, or faster than the resistive type since they make direct contact with the metal.  If it wasn't so much trouble to add the new wires for the thermocouple, I'd try one to compare.  For now, I'm mostly thinking about the next project which will also have a 912 and D180.

    Cheers,

    Rusty

I skimmed through the video, and it appears to be talking about EGT sensors, not CHT right?
