I had my valve covers off today and was thinking of this post. The valve covers can move (rotate) ever so slightly within their hub, but it was enough to adjust this gap from touching to .01”, well within spec. I suspect the OP will be able to do the same.

I will check into this. Thank you. I assume a new o-ring is still needed.

Update: iRMT looked at these, loosened, rotated, and re-torqued. The gap on both is increased now, but one side is still not up to rotax spec. As there has been, and continues to be, no fretting, I was advised not to worry about it unless conditions change. The adjustment had no effect on the noise I was searching for.
