Hi Eric
Yes you are correct in as much as it meets a MIL spec. i should have stated that the harness for the injected Rotax has no coloured wires as in an automobile. Rotax has no Pink, Blue or Green in the harness in the iS engines, they have some yellow on the charging system but that is only from the generators to the fuse box. Generally the white in aviation is to be able to identify shorts or damage quicker by visual reference, at least that is what my avionics guy tells me. I have seen twisted pairs in harness used by some of the OEM to connect the CAN connectors to the displays to have the reference you gave, makes sense to me. In the carbureted engines have a number if wires that have different colours however they are not rated to 150C is my understanding. The main concern was to comply with certification on wires that are in the cockpit in the event of overvoltage or fire where the insulation may melt and give off vapor. In the carbureted engine there is no issue as the wiring all stays within the fire zone. In the type 914 it is necessary to mount the TCU in the pilot side of the firewall and it also have Tefzel (white) harness for the same reasons.
Wiring is not my strong suit so thanks for looking that all up. In the first round of the prototype harnesses I had to fight to get Tefzel used in the harness. If there is a need i can ask if they have any plans to use other colours in the future, I don't know if that is really needed in that it is a rather short harness, compared to an aircraft, so should not be that hard to track. Tomorrow I will pull out some harness and check to be sure they have not changed anything from what had in the past.
Cheers
