Just got my plane back from annual, started up today and got both lane lights flashing. (Before engaged starter, the lane lights extinguished during the self-check.) Faults page said generator failure on both Lane A and Lane B. I tried cycling each lane button, but the flashing persisted as soon as I turned that lane back on. I let the engine run for a couple of minutes as T&Ps were good and no rough running. Shut down once I reached 120F oil temp, waited a full minute, then restart and, Alakazam, no more lane lights.

Anyone know why it would do this? Is this like something is wrong with your iPhone and you just restart it and the problem goes away and it's not something I should worry about? Just wanted to check here to be sure it's something I shouldn't worry about since it went away upon restart, OR if I should be TERRIFIED. Thanks!

What was the ambient & oil temp when you started first time? I have had similar issue on startup, usually when the engine is cold (40's F). It starts fine but both lane lights flash and won't clear when I try to reset them one at a time, so I shut down and restart. If the issue persists I warm the oil to 120F and restart as you did and the sensor issue seems to resolve itself. Not sure why either (I need to pull my most recent logs) but would appreciate some technical assistance/explanation, too. Thx in advance!

Not cold at all, in my case. Was 75F out.

I can see your battery voltage is only 12.3.  Thats about 60% charged for a lead acid battery and less for a LiPo battery.  Your RPM is 2190, so maybe Alternator B has not switched over to the airframe yet.  Does your battery voltage come up after you have reached 2500 RPM for 15 seconds?

I suspect you had a low voltage condition during the startup, which can put the lanes in fault.  You probably could have reset them one at a time while the engine was running.

Thanks, but wasn’t low voltage. In fact, the battery was just charged and I took it off the tender before this flight. It always shows mid to low 12s before the generator kicks over. And I know everyone says 2500 15 seconds but for me it’s 2400 and 5 seconds. With the lane lights present, the gen would not kick it over. Tried individually resetting the lanes but didn’t work. Only an engine restart did.

I too have experienced this Lane light  issue. On occasion I have one Lane flashing and the other  steady or both flashing. A reset of either Lane had no effect ie did not clear the fault.

Whether first start of the day or warm or hot engine made no difference.

What seems to have resolved the problem is the position of the throttle on start up:

    1. Note the position of the throttle on the pedestal that gives you 2000 RPM on start.

    2. Start the engive.

The start is smoother and seems to have solved the problem. I occasionally have a Lane light illuminate but the reset is successful .

Seems the innitial start RPM plays a part in Lane light faults on start...
