Good find Jim and thanks for reporting back. You have illustrated the limitations of testing with an ohm meter. The test voltage with a standard Volt-Ohm meter is very low and often won’t expose a short across the coil windings that will show up under the higher operating voltage. This is especially true on the secondary side of the coil where the voltage exceeds 20,000.

Garmin's response to how this was related to my coil issue below.
"All of that information is sent over the CAN bus from the engine. The coil could have caused issues with the Rotax engine and that could be why it struggled to send engine data. I do not think this was an issue with the GEA24."
