I found that the new fuel pump assembly that came with the engine I purchased may fall into the serial number range listed in ASB-915 i A-006, ASB-912 i-010 . What does this mean for me? is this fuel pump assembly that's never been installed unusable?  It is Assembly 889696 S/N 18.0803. You'd think the previous owner would have had it replaced if they had the option but apparently didn't. The serial number of the fuel pump was not shared with me so I'm just discovering this now. what are my options as far as this assembly goes?

    Hi Jared,

Sorry for the delayed response to your question!

Yes, the fuel pump assembly you have is affected by this ASB, and you should NOT use that fuel pump. Unfortunately, the exchange program and cost-sharing option were only valid until August 1, 2019, so you can no longer apply for a free replacement from Rotax.

Your only option is to purchase a new fuel pump assembly. We highly recommend using the latest fuel pump listed in the attached Rotax Service Instruction:

    • Fuel Pump (Packaged): P/N 889732

    • Fuel Pump (Individual): P/N 889731

Please contact your local Rotax Distributor or Service Center for a price and availability.

I'm curious what was the problem with the fuel pump assemblies that caused the ASB? I was under the impression it was for possible pump leakage. I know my engine logbook showed a leak check had been complied with and was signed off on.  Does the whole assembly have to be replaced or just the fuel pumps? At $3000 dollars for the assembly which is basically just 2 fuel pumps and some connectors they must be lined with gold LOL.

    Hi Jared,

You are not looking at the latest ASB related to that specific fuel pump, refer to ASB-915 i A-008 / ASB-912 i-011 (see attached).

Rotax states the following reason: "Due to deviations in the manufacturing process of the electric fuel pump, a malfunction of the fuel supply may occur. Possible effects might include rough engine running, unusual engine operating behavior, and potential power reduction or engine stoppage."

Only the fuel pumps need to be replaced. However, the new fuel pumps P/N 889732 & 889731 are significantly larger and will not fit inside the existing stainless-steel housing.

If you want the best and most reliable fuel pump for your engine, then P/N 889732 (packaged) or P/N 889731 (individual) is the recommended option.

Otherwise, you would need to source an aftermarket fuel pump based on the parameters and specifications outlined in the ROTAX 912iS Installation Manual. However, keep in mind that doing so may violate regulations depending on the classification of your aircraft.

Interesting. I have pump assembly 889696, but its SN 21.0464 is higher than the "danger zone." The pumps themselves are part # 889691, SN 21.07n7. Are these "good versions" of the smaller pumps, or the larger ones? I've never seen a photo of a pump assembly larger or smaller than mine, so no baseline to compare. Just curious.

    Hi Jason,

Yes, your fuel pumps are the standard ones that come with the engine from the factory and are not affected by any Airworthiness Service Bulletin (ASB) or Service Bulletin (SB). We have no reports of any issues with the pumps you currently have.

The fuel pumps we are recommending are the optional ones listed in Service Instruction SI-912 i-032 (see attachment):

    • Fuel Pump (Packaged): P/N 889732
    • Fuel Pump (Individual): P/N 889731

These fuel pumps are significantly larger than yours and will not fit inside the stainless steel box. The reason we suggest these pumps over your current ones is due to their increased size, which allows for more fuel capacity within the pump itself. This additional fuel helps keep the pumps cooler, and we have received excellent feedback regarding their performance and reliability.

While they may be more expensive than your current pumps, if you need to replace them anyway, we believe the extra cost is well worth it to get the best option available.

That said, this is simply our recommendation and the choice is entirely up to you.

Hope this helps clarify things, but don’t hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
