Background noise with 912iS

Hello,

I have a Rotax 912iS and a Becker AR6201 and I have a lot of background noise when the engine runs. I heard that the 912iS has this default. I would like to know if somebody has the same problem and if you find the solution ?

Probably start for inspection of:
- grounding
- ground loops
- antenna cable quality
- antenna mounting (should be on metal sheet)
- how radio is powered (filters? )

I not sure IS but in normal 912 ignition cut-off wires should be shielded.

Hi Sylvain,

It is most likely a wiring issue or poor connection. I have a couple of friends with the new engine and their headsets are nice and quiet.

Hi Roger,

Yes, I think I have a problem with some spark plug connector or ignition cable, because when I disconnect all spark plug connector and I re-connect them, sometimes the background noises disappear…But I don't manage to discover where is the problem.

Try checking the security of the HT leads onto the coils. The push together plugs on the coil/HT lead can come loose and cause slight RF interference.

Clean them, squeeze them & refit & hopefully the noise will have gone.

I have the same problem with interference, only with a PM 200 radio, I've checked everything and can't stop the noise. It gets worse the higher the RPM. It's a ticking noise. Going to fit a different radio now but extremely fusterating given the expense and time so far.
