    Whomever wired your radio may have wires too close to a high energy source or you have a ground loop. My bet is you need to have an avionics guy take a look. You may also just have the radio in the tray not connecting well.

    Roger, the issue with the radio interference was resolved with the Rotax air box upgrade. The upgrade included new coils and leads. I believe the coils on the upgrade are different to what was first fitted to the engine. I had read on another forum that this would fix the break through issue before the upgrade arrived and it did. Interesting that someone had inside information.

    While I had no ignition noise I upgraded to sport about a year ago. The connectors at the ignition coil showed arcing had been taking place. Your avionics installation should have a separate ground buss which is in-turn grounded to the main engine/airframe ground. Electronic equipment should have a ground wire routed to the buss. It is not advisable to ground equipment to any close airframe ground. Some times a appropriate ferrite coil installed on the radio input power line just before it enters the radio will eliminate
    noise. Ferrite cores come in different frequencies. The ones you see on many personal electronic devices are not usually suitable.
