My E/A-B kit provided AN8 Push-On fittings for the oil system and they match the engine fittings and oil tank - all good. Trying to find and build confidence in oil hose that's up to the task has, so far, just been educated guess-work. While pretty close, the 12.5mm Rotax-recommended hose for experimental use seems like it might be undersized for 1/2in fittings and I've heard that. Most of the recommendations I've found so far are supplied by auto racing vendors, even Aeroquip AQP Socketless Hose and similar types. I have OET clamps, which I know aren't generally needed for push-on hose, but some race sactioning bodies like to see them for competition. I'd be happy to use them if they make things better, not worse.

I'm a little reluctant to go with an aircraft hose shop (for type-D) or braided stainlees lines as it will be very expensive and probably result in my having to scrap all of my nice looking fittings.

I've scoured this site and many others, but still haven't gotten to a decision point on hose.

What exact hose would be a sound choice for the demands of 912iS Rotax-powered aircraft use and allow me to use the kit-supplied 1/2in AN8 push-on hardware?

Thanks!

Nearly any 1/2" Oil Rated Hose will be "Up to the Task".
The Oil hose connected to the Oil Pump is a suction line.
As long as it doesn't collapse, it is good.
The Oil Hose connected to the bottom of the block has a Max spec of ~6 psi.
2-3 psi is a typical operating pressure as it does double duty as the crankcase ventilation line.
You will be hard-pressed to find a hose that can't hold these pressures.

The Stainless Braids are mostly for cosmetics and abrasion resistance for this application.
The Internal diameter is what is important to allow full flow at these low pressures.
The demands on the Oil hoses are low.
Pick a quality rubber hose and cover it in fire sleeving for abrasion and fire resistance.

    Richard,

As you have discovered, if you search for "1/2" oil hose" you will get few results.  With respect to push on fittings, the industry considers 12.5mm hose the same as 1/2" and you will find more listings that way.  Many 12.5mm hoses are also marked (1/2"). Yes, 12.7mm would be more accurate but that's not what the industry sells.

To further complicate this, Rotax offers both metric (12mm) and UNF (AN-08) oil fittings for their engines.  You will find both listed in the Rotax Illustrated Parts Manual.  But, the only oil hose shown in the manual is the 12mm hose that's fits the metric fittings. Nevertheless, if you have -08 fittings, you need the 12.5 mm (1/2") hose.
