I have the standard Rotax supplied exhaust system on my 912 iS Sport on a Zenith CH750.

I've noticed one or two installations where the exhaust pipe has been shortened a few inches from its "as supplied" length of about 9 inches (250mm) I guess this reduces drag a little and makes engine cowl removal a little easier, but is there an effect on performance?

What are the pro's and con's of shortening it?

I'd leave it alone. The drag someone complained about would be so minute it wouldn't be a factor. As far as putting the cowl on or off that isn't worth the effort.
