Has anyone changed from the all-in ACS type of ignition/mags switch to seperate mag toggle switches and if so, what switch rating can one use for the 912ULS 2011 engine? Need to know what current surge is produced through the mag switches in order to correctly rate the toggle switch.

Shouldent be that high demand to those switches, but I use 2x 30A toggle switches for ign. They only lead GND to the ign system.

Most, if not all, certified aircraft use the ACS type switch. On the other hand, just about all powered parachutes use separate toggle switches. I've never had a problem with either type. Since all the switch does is shunt to ground, just about any 10-30 amp switch will do.

I personally prefer the use of two toggles. It's just an opinion not based on technical expertise, but it makes sense to me to have separate possible failure points for each mag rather than a single switch which could fail both mags at once.

    Hi David,

You see installations both ways. It just depends on the builder or MFG.

Hi Guys, many thanks for the replies. I finally used two 250VAC, 15A toggle switches and grounded both switches back to the ACS ignition switch. Seems to be working fine for the monment.

ACS/rotary mag switches have an AD on them. 93-05-06. Lots of problems with them arcing inside.
I also heard of problems with a rotary switch from Italy that gave a high mag drop but still shut the engine down. That must have been fun to troubleshoot!!
Hard to beat the simplicity and reliability of two toggle switches and a starter button.
