I tried brake spring tools a long time ago. I could never find on small enough to fit most muffler and spring installations. They were too big and could be turned in the correct direction for use.

This tool has a super easy, two finger pull. easy to reach into tight areas and you can bend it if you need to go around a corner.
Just weld some 1/4" rod to a piece of tubing.

That tool works okay with the engine off and there is nothing in the way. I can't get that into several of the spring loops and direct the spring where I want it in many mounted engines.

Very funny Roger. I used the new engine for the video just to show how it works; I use it all the time on all sorts of aircraft and it works like a charm. Replaced all the springs on a CSTSW a couple of weeks ago and finished in seconds.(thanks for the help with the fuel leak on the same aircraft, I would not have guessed that fitting was the culprit)
It really helps to install the springs so the end you are pulling on has the hook inwards. Also make the rod long enough you can bend it to fit the curve of the pipe and the extra length keeps your knuckles away from sharp stuff.

    Glad it worked out.

It did work out okay didn't it?
