    Hi Roger,

Was there an engine serial number break point for the change to the mushroom type?
    For example, something like 6770500.

    Hi Ian,

This is one thing I didn't understand about Rotax thought process. That thought it was important enough to come out with the mushroom style oil pressure regulator, but they still install the ball bearing at the factory. It calms down pressure fluctuations and usually raises the pressure around 5 psi. For people that had fluctuating oil pressure and or low oil pressure the mushroom and associated parts did help. Why not just install it at the factory?

To answer your question directly, unless you replaced the ball bearing after it came from the factory it's still there.

If you have a newer engine and everything on the pressure side is good then no need to rush out and install the mushroom.

Roger: When you replace the spring and ball should you use Loctite 243 when installing the oil plug?

I never have and they haven't leaked. I do safety wire all of them.
