It might also be worth removing the starter to check it is ok.

I have recently removed a "pattern" starter motor from a 912uls that had a "Made in Taiwan" sticker on it. When I removed the starter motor, it would not turn smoothly. After stripping it, I found one of the four bonded magnets had un-bonded and was sticking to the rotor.
This would mean that the motor would be putting out very little power / torque.
There is no way you could tell this had happened while the motor is attached to the engine, and you also have no idea how much torque it is producing.
Also the splined shaft was very badly worn, and it had only been used for around 10 - 20 starts. All the metal fillings and chips from the worn shaft splines would be inside the engine.

1st point- Always use genuine Rotax parts and not cheaper third party crap to save your self a couple of quid / dollars.

2nd point - Always take your time and check things properly, instead of assuming every thing is ok because it is too much trouble taking things off and checking. It will be cheaper and less disruptive if you do the job right first time.
