I bought a 2007 CTLS in 2012. I have flown it all over the Hawaiian islands. It is well maintained and hangered.

One thing I have constantly noticed is that ( on the EMS display ) the amperage reading fluctuates almost second to second all over the place--usually, from -8amps to +10 amps. The voltage reading fluctuates just a little bit, almost always in the 12.8V to 13.2V range. The fluctuation on the amp reading is much small when the engine is at taxing rpms ( & always in the green ), but at 5,200rpm cruise it bounces around almost second to second.

And occasionally if the amp reading bounced to -10amps or so---into the red, the red engine light would come on. This is a little bothersome when flying over the ocean, and caused a little worry with my wife today. The engine runs just great, and there are no other issues, but I thought I better ask more knowledgeable people--like you all, what you thought of this...???

Would appreciate your thoughts on this....

Thanks.

    Roger;
    I really appreciated your getting back to me !

    There are only 2 CTLSs in Hawaii. The one in Honolulu is a 2013 CTLSi. Needless to say, it is hard to find anyone who is well qualified to work on these engines !

    I do have a good A&I, I attended the CPS schooling; and I have all the maintenance manuals printed for the 912ULS. So I will remove the cowlings tomorrow morning and pull out my manuals in preparation for our troubleshooting next Tuesday....however, if we get flummoxed we may give you a call :O)

    Btw; the CTLS seems just about perfect for Hawaii. Hard to fly longer than and hour or so and farther than 150 nm; the weather is highly predictable; the runways all long and wide; and you just can't beat the scenery. Only thing: a lot of ocean out there !, so I try to keep my hangered baby in the best possible shape !! I also limit cruise to 5,200+/-rpms--still puts out 118knts.

    Anyway; thanks again !

    Aloha;

    Hi Scott,

    Call anytime. I'll help if I can. There is another CTLS on Maui. He's the largest farmer in Hawaii.

    It's the same one. The farm is actually on Molokai, which is in Maui County.
