Kevin, thanks for your response, and providing the schematic!

Mike, any chance you may know of a schematic for how Zenith recommends installing the panel and switches? If not, I can ask them. I thought that most all airplanes had a separate Alternator switch, in addition to the Master. I agree with you...diagram will help us start to understand if we have any wiring flaws in our system. Thanks, Art.

Hey Roger, you may remember I gave a you a call a couple months ago. Again, thanks so much for your response and willingness to help! I had the capacitor installed a year after I purchased the plane, and it didn't change anything about this electrical problem. However, I will definitely double check and ensure that the polarity is not reversed. Thanks, Art.

Look at the terminal connections right at the regulator for heat damage. There have been several cases I personally know of where these terminals were not making good contact and overheated, smoked and actually melted some of the black internal potting compound which oozed out. All this on an otherwise properly wired system. The regulator eventually failed. Some folks are eliminating the big plastic connector and putting good quality tight fitting spade type terminals on each individual wire.
