Coolant Temp Sensor

Just want to make sure that for engine with coolant T-stat installed (see picture) correct temperature sensor position is between expansion tank 1" outlet and T-stat on 1" pipe.
Sensors reading CHT not going to give us accurate reading and somewhat useless. They not sitting inside of coolant flow.
