Upgraded to BUDS 4.0. Software won’t recognize my s/n and Activation code of my service dongle cable.

Do you need to upgrade the dongle cable as well?

If you are talking about the Dongle for the i Engines, you shouldn't need to upgrade your dongle.  If you are talking about for the 914, as I understand it only TCU's 4.6 can use BUDS 4.0 and don't require a dongle at all, they use a USB to serial cable.  If it is TCU lower than 4.6 you can't use BUDS, I don't believe.

Have a 912isSport. Apparently my cable doesn’t work with an adapter (USB to USB-c) on my laptop.

Used my desktop computer w/ USB and cable works… hard to drag my desktop down to hanger…I’ll figure that out.
Is the instructions for using 4.0 in the HELP menu of the software or?

I haven’t looked at the help menu but depending on what your looking to do it is pretty intuitive. Feel free to ask questions here or PM me too.

I haven’t tried this personally but have you tried a device like this rather than a cable adapter?  It creates a USB hub so it might work.

Limited-time deal: uni USB C to USB Hub 4 Ports, Aluminum USB Type C to USB Adapter with 4 USB 3.0 Ports, Thunderbolt 3 to Multiport USB 3.0 Hub Adapter for MacBook Pro/Air 2020/2019, iPad Pro, Dell, Chromebook and more https://a.co/d/7YX4aKs

I know this is over two years old, sorry for dredging up the past. Just a little FYI for the next guy...

For my 1st use ever of BUDS on a 914 as a fresh iRMT, I used (tried to use) the Lockwood recommended USB/Serial converter, in the field, without luck.

Turned out that later, with WiFi, the solution was that I needed to install a driver for my USB/serial adapter and then I could connect to the TCU.  I am going to say that the TCU was original from 2013 (whatever firmware version that was)

THEN I was able to reset the throttle position sensors after the carburetors were rebuilt and synchronized.

    Cheers
