Hi dears,

A beginner question: what type of torque drive should I have for general service of 912 engine?

Drive size, typical torque range.

    If your question is about a torque wrench, I have found that a 3/8" drive with a torque range up to 250 in-lbs covers all the bases, except one bolt on my tailwheel. Get a good quality one for accuracy.

    I think you will need two torque wrenches - one extra light duty and one a bit "stronger".

    There are nut/bolts that are well below  20Nm and then there are those above 20 Nm it would be difficult to find a single,  accurate,  torque wrench that covers the range.

    I have a Snapon that is 3/8 drive and 60 - 360 in/lbs. It works in in/lbs, Nm or ft/lbs.  It works for almost everything. I do have a larger one for things like the nut on the crankshaft gear for the gearbox which needs up to 150 ft/lbs and a 42mm socket.

    I bought a small 0-50 in-lbs torque wrench for the small bolts, but ended up hardly ever using it. As Roger says, the larger (mine is a Craftsman 20-250 in-lbs) one works fine on the small bolts also.
