582 cc Blue Head OVERHEATING

I've a Rotax 582 Mod99 (Blue headed) engine with about 280 hours. I'm having overheating problems: At 5500 rpm the water temperature goes up to 80ºC(176F) with the outside temperature (air) about 28ºC (82.4F).
The water temperature usually stabilizes at about 75ºC(167F) at 5100 rpm and goes to 80°C at 5500rpm.

I've checked:
- cooling liquid (anti-freeze 40% water 60%)
- fuel octane / fuel mixture
- cooling ducts
- instruments or sender (tested with termometer out side the motor)
- thermostat (tested with termometer out side the motor)
- changed spark plug
- changed air filter
- changed jet needle and needle jet
- airscrew turn 1 (one turn)

What else can I do ?

    Leandro,

    Has the engine been running OK and then started running hot? What are the EGTs at cruise and open throttle? Have you tried a different thermostat? In what position is the E clip on the jet needle?

    A little more information and maybe we can figure it out.

    Plus what is the max engine rpm WOT flat and level. If the prop is too course it will over heat.

    Yes Bill, my engine starts ok. To take off I open throttle at 6400 rpm for 20 seconds and than down to 5400 rpm, at this point the temp is 70°C. After 2 minutes it rises up to 80°C. My EGT doesn't work.

    I've tested the instruments and sender in hot water outside the engine and it's ok, the measure is the same from the thermometer. The thermostat opens at about 60°C (tested outside the engine).

    I changed the antifreeze to a lean mixture with 30% coolant and 70% mineral water (I don't have demineralized)

    I'm flying at sea level and the needle clip is in the 3rd position. Yesterday I tryed to put in the 4th position and made a ground test. The temperature reduced to 77° more or less. But the collor in the spark plug became more grayish than brownish.



    With the clip in the 4th position the spark plug should became brownish, shouldn't it?

    You really need to have a working EGT and understand what its telling you on a 2 stroke,

    When you say the needle is now in the 4th position...has that raised or lowered the needle,

    What I am trying to understand....is the needle clip in the lower most slot or the upper most slot.
