E Gearbox Flywheel Rust

I just picked up a used E gearbox for a 582. The flywheel(?) (part 1 on the exploded diagram) is a bit rusty. I am thinking about cleaning with some evapo-rust. I am wondering if it should then be painted to prevent new rust? If paint is a bad idea, I could at least soak it in some CRC 3-36 for a while. Anyone know how it comes from the factory?
