I don't have any other experience with a 914 other than this SLSA so I don't know what the correct procedure is. However, the factory wrapped a split rubber hose around that section and ziptied it (like in the picture below). I found the charred remnants of the zip tie on the exhaust manifold. It definitely seems like that isn't the way to go in the future. I also noticed that the hoses in the picture below appear to be wet. Seems like these might need replacement as well.

"Plastic" zip/cable ties should not be used in potentially high heat situations. Metal ones exist but I find them hard to get tight. It's easier and more secure if you do the safety wire double wrap & twist off .

Double wrap is used when securing to a hose, to give 360 degree pressure similar to a hose clamp (without the weight & cost).

I also use "preloved" hose cut to length, whole (ring) or split (sleeve) to protect against abrasion/rubbing.- not so much for heat.

Many (on this Forum) swear by firesleeve. Not cheap, for ease of application/removal best to have compressed air handy,

I hope you are aware of the Rotax recommended 5 year replacement interval for ALL rubber components.

    Hi all

First, whomever installed this did it wrong.  Rubber "sleeves" are for rubbing and not heat shields.  There is only firesleeve or special heat sleeve materials for this .  Most racing oil line protection uses special oil lines with firesleeve or heat shield, usually a metallic weave type of fabric.

Rotax does not supply with the engine any oil lines, that is the responsibility of the OEM or kit builder.  As already stated plastic ties (zip ties) are not fire resistant.  The exhaust on a type 914 can reach 1800 F (980 C)  in a lean burn power run. If this was a Special Light Sport, factory made aircraft and installation, I would contact them and find our if this was the only one they made with a 914 or if there are others.  I would be concerned they might also fail.

    Cheers

That was our thought as well. This was one of only two 914s that the factory did for the US market.

Edit: Just found a picture of the other 914. Have no idea why this one has firesleeve and ours doesn't. The other plane is a 2019 so came before ours.

While addressing the heat damage as radiant, also inspect that no exhaust leak emerged that focused a jet of heat energy upon your oil hose.
