Re: Rotax 912 ULS - Fretted CrankCase

It has been checked over by a Rotax expert. The oil is leaking from the top of the engine, between the crankcase halves. All oil hoses are good, and it isn’t overfilled.
I have someone who can rebuild it. I just can’t seem to find a new crankcase.

Talk to LEAF. Ask about the short block service, they are very reasonable.

A new short-block is $12K, and probably $4-5K for someone to install it. Not a very economical prospect.
What about applying sealant between the crankcase halves where the oil is leaking? It runs beautifully, and the resistance between compression strokes when hot doesn't seem too bad.

Why buy a new short block? You can send out your old one and have them put the internal parts into a new crankcase with new bearings and seals. Yes it will need to be taken down to short block status before shipment and reassembled on returning. A couple years ago it was less than $3k including shipping.

Thanks, Sam.
Can you recommend somewhere to get this done?
