    Hi Ralph

Thanks for your input again. I do not believe 'this topic is getting a little out of hand' there have been nothing but facts supplied to this post along with pictures (which do not lie) and then an alarming number of other Rotax users with the same fault. Yes I have speculated the worst possible outcome if this issue is left alone, but I will not apologise for wanting to ensure no one gets killed.

What I want is for Rotax to acknowledge this issue with the affected users and put in place appropriate measures to ensure no one is killed. You cannot tell me that I am the first person to ever report this issue to Rotax, there must be information around this already and as someone mentioned earlier it will be handled on a case by case basis. Well when your Rotax Distributor will not respond because parts were not purchased through them, what is one to do?? As I keep saying it is obviously very different for you folk in the Northern Hemisphere with far more agents and support available. You are obviously struggling to comprehend what it is like to be an end user in this isolated environment.

Bert Flood Imports (Rotax Distributor for Australia and New Zealand) are aware of my issue but have not responded to me. In regards to the CSIR Report response time, for a company to have not even acknowledged a report within 2 weeks seems terrible. Since you have been in this position several times, what do you suggest is a normal and appropriate response time??

I have taken your advice and have sent another email to Bert Flood in Australia to see what the next steps should be. I do agree with you that there is far too much talking and not nearly enough action in this post. However with the number of people learning about this problem which is affecting them I don't think its all bad.

The only other thing I will say is that I have no idea if 'Rotax Owner' is directly associated with Rotax or not. However to be told that "you've taken on the responsibility yourself for both the technical issue and financial outcome" by buying BRAND NEW ROTAX PARTS from another country you have got to be joking. How on earth does buying your Brand New Rotax Replacement Parts from an authorised Rotax Agent that happens to be in a different country suddenly make me responsible for this failure in the first place ... that is absolutely absurd and I will dispute that till the end. I completely acknowledge that now my engine is working again any subsequent problems will be mine after the work undertaken, however I can guarantee that the premature failure WAS NOT MY DOING AND I WILL NOT BE TAKING RESPONSIBILTY FOR FIXING ROTAX'S PROBLEM.

I appreciate you taking the time to provide an account of your experience dealing with similar issues and I am very pleased to hear you have had satisfactory outcomes every time.

    Hi Johathan
I agree with your views, as I wonder why we have only one dealer in this region, when there is multiple dealers in the USA. More dealers in this area, may bring some competition and we might see better pricing and some better support.

It is very frustrating when we are forced to deal with just one dealer and as we are all trying to save money, why pay double for the same parts.

Something for Rotax to think about. A classic example of this is the cost of a CHT sensor through the dealer here in in excess of $175, i was able to source the exact same sensor for $45. How can this be justified? Can someone from Rotax justify this.

Also additional dealers may bring some of the hands on training down under, which if I was a resident in USA I can get.

This is why we buy from dealers outside of our region!!!!

    Hello All

Thought I would post an update to complete this thread. It has now been 5 months since I was last on here dealing with this issue and my 912S has just clocked over 100 hours since we fitted the new crankcase and associated parts. All is going well, no problems at all which is great.

I wanted to provide an update on my dealings with Rotax ....... well there has been nothing from them. No acknowlodgement of the CSIR, the issue, or that I even exist. I do know that the Australian agent received the CSIR form as after calling them 3 weeks later they told me that they had been in contact with Rotax regarding it but "don't hold my breath waiting for a response". Fantastic ... what a great company to deal with!! Honestly its a good thing they have a monopoly in the LSA engine market because they wouldn't be in business if their after sales service was a factor.

What was interesting was when I mentioned the hugely inflated spare parts prices in this part of the world to the Australian agent after they quizzed me about purchasing from the USA, they suggested that I should have spoken to them about the situation as they could have provided me a "much better" price because my engine had failed. I suggested to them that was absurd given that I had done the 'approved' thing by contacting my local agent who had then requested parts pricing from THEM in the first place and their price was 90% more expensive! I also suggested that why would I require a new crankcase if I didn't have a failed part!!

Anyway enough from me, I hope you all have better luck with Rotax than I did. Safe happy flying people.

    Regards,
    Jonathan

I have run into the fretting problem on my 912S as well. Only 460 hours. The serial number falls into the same range as the others. I have talked to a few of the Rotax dealers here in the states and they all want about the same money to fix it which is about 9K or more. Hopes of getting any support from Rotax is not good from what I'm told.

I'm not opposed to fixing it myself but, I was told the information on splitting the case is proprietary and I won't be able to get it. I have the skill to do this but no torque and sequence specs. Is this information available somewhere?

Overhaul manuals are distributor level only. There is a spec for the fretting and is a maint. check item. Is your value on your check over what the manual says is max?
