  • Re: oozing Oil Breather ? solution?

This is on a Kitfox 5 (tractor). It's not 'excessive' but i don't have enough 912ULS experience or friends to compare against in person so i have to rely on the forum. In an hour flight with the tank completely full it streams out about a 1/2 teaspoon of oil which spread on a white underbelly is ugly - i'm just trying to prevent this. I assume this is a normal amount of oil for the breather?

sounds like the easiest 'test' it to lower my oil level a touch and see if that helps prevent it - any other easy tests to conduct? I show good oil pressure at all times.

    Thanks!

Keep your oil level in the middle of the flat on the dipstick. That's where we keep ours at our flight school. Make sure you burp the engine before checking the level.

    Hi ,
    I too have KF5 with 912uls.
I currently am using Aeroshell Sport Plus4, it is semisynthetic. I notice a very slight oil coating on belly from breather line . I think I might have filled the oil tank a little high at last oil change.( right at full mark on dipstick)
The oil level on the dip stick has seemed to stabilize in the middle of the two marks now, checked after burping.
I think you have just a little too much oil in your tank, when it heats up and expands some is going out the breather. Blue Skies!

I always keep it at 'the top' of the mark so i had the most reserve, but this may be my problem. I'll start with that! thanks for the details!

    HI Wild.
As in my previous post, check which oil return pick up your engine is using. There is a FWD and AFT tap on the bottom of the case. We need to get this infomation out of the way for troubleshooting.
