A few months ago I let install the original easy start system on my 912ULS engine.
When the engine is warm, it works fine. You can hear the delayed ignition timing switching to normal after prox. 5 seconds.
The problem is that when iI make a cold start:
a) The delayed ignition timing don’t work.
b) The generator don’t work from the start. Voltage indicate less than 12 Volts. And negative Amps.
Even during warm up it still don’t . Sometimes after the engine test, (high RPM) he indicates 13,5 Volt. The two latest flights, it was during takeoff that he starts to increase to 13,5 Volt.
Do somebody know what can be the problem ?
I think there is an relation between the two malfunctions.

    Hi Guy,

Who's soft start system do you have? Bully Hawk or Rotax ignition modules?
This could be a poor connection either at the starter solenoid or where the two Rotax soft start wires plug in up at the ignition modules. This may be just a poor ground (my first guess) for the entire system. Make sure you double check this. Clean ground contacts and tighten them tight. I would add a temporary new ground wire over the first just to rule this grounding possibility out. This is easy and quick.

    Dear Roger,

It is an Original Rotax Soft Start with ignition modules.

Many thanks for your advice, I will check it.

    Dear Roger,

Can this grounding problem also cause the generator malfunction ?

    Hi Guy,

Absolutely. The ground can affect all things electrical for you. Starting, stopping, electrical readings, ect....
I tell everyone (that will listen any way :silly: ) that grounds may be hand tight, but wrench loose. Put a wrench on all of them and make sure they aren't corroded.

For those that live in humid or damp climates you can protect your electrical contacts with a product called Boeing T-9. It was made for Boeing and it was designed to protect against moisture. I have used it for 14 years and in salt water to boot and will swear by it.
Corrosion-X is another good product, but it stays a little damp or moist in comparison to the T-9 which is a paraffin base that leaves a drier coating.
