What is the rotax position on using Decalin?
Lots of posts indicating results similar to TCP but less toxic...

Decalin Run-Up is "acknowledged" in SI-912-016 sec 5.2. This is as close approval as Rotax will go as they have not done any official testing themselves but instead are relying on field results.
A huge fleet (hundreds of engines with over 150,000hrs of flight time)of Rotax 9 series engines runs on avgas with Run-up and it does work and it does not harm the engine.

    Hi Warren,

I have a Flight Design CT and most of our fleet in the US use Decalin and I do too. Any of the lead scavengers help with leading, but it isn't a cure all and if you can use auto fuel then you're better off in the long haul. I use all most all auto fuel, but when I travel I have to use 100LL like everyone else. Aircraft Spruce carries it in two different sizes. 1/2 oz. per 10 gals.

    Roger ...

And, as you told me quite a while back, Decalin can be safely carried in the plane where TCP cannot. Right?

    Hi Dale,

As far as carrying, Decalin is a better choice than TCP by far. I still carry mine in a 1 gal zip lock bag just in case it were to leak under the pressure changes, but I haven't ever had a problem. The plastic squeeze bottle comes in two basic sizes. If you use 100LL a lot then the larger size works, but if you only use 100LL like many of us and only when you travel the smaller size is usually adequate.
