Old style heads are better served with 50/50 or a 60/40 mix (silicate free and most are now days in the US). 50/50 will give a tad better cooling if you live in a warmer climate. The more anti freeze coolant per water volume reduces the cooling capabilities of the solution. So a 70% anti freeze to water mix has less cooling than a 50% anti freeze to water mix. Most companies now days recommend 50/50 or 60/40. Water has better heat absorption and heat release capabilities than straight coolant and that's why Evans carries a temp increase penalty with it, no water and it's thicker so the flow is slower. You need the anti freeze to protect parts from corrosion and rust, increase the water boiling point and stabilize the coolant for long term use. We change it because those properties diminish over time.

I have a 2 year old 912UL with 150 operating hours. It has Evens waterless coolant installed.
The engine was built before the new cylinder heads were introduced.

The CHT normally operates around 90 DegC. There is no over heating issue. Australian conditions vary quite a lot from summer 36 DegC to winter 10 DegC.

Based on the Evens product works well and does not need to be changed, what is the recommended service life for Evens and also for the alternaive 50/50 option?

    Hi Ian

If you use 50/50 antifreeze/ water you need to change the blue coloured coolant within 2 years and the pink coloured coolant within 5 years.

Evans coolant is for the life of the engine as it doesn't degrade with time or use.

If you have Evans in your engine and it works for you, leave it alone. If you need to empty it to do any maintenance, just filter it and re-use it.
