    Hi Chris

Depending on when you bought your Quik depends on what the coolant mixture ratio was. If it was over a year ago the coolant would have been 100% ethylene glycol. About 12 months ago they started diluting it at about 70/30. They normally use the blue coolant with a 2 year life. The coolant colour tends to fade with time and/or high temps.

I have used Evans for the past 10 years and have not had any issues at all. It is the most stable coolant you can get. I also use a 0.9 bar radiator cap as well as the 1.2 bar cap is not necessary with Evans.

    Cheers Mark

    Hi Mark,

You live in a pretty cool climate in the UK. He lives in Africa with high OAT's like we have here in the desert. I would bet his OAT temps are 85F -105F like mine. No one here in the hot desert uses Evans because of the over temp issues.

    Hi Roger

It may be hot where he lives but the Quik radiators are well oversized. In summer in the UK in temps of around +25c
my radiator is covered about 50%, and that is using Evans coolant.

With a big radiator and an un-cowled engine it's not a problem.

I just wish we had your OATs over here so that cooling would be a problem for me ;)

    Cheers Mark

    Hi Mark,

I agree that open air and exposed engines usually can dump enough heat that Evans isn't bad at all. We have tried it here in the southwest US with cowled engines and they all tend to over heat.

25C, that's a heat wave for you guys. It's been almost 23C-25C here most of the winter. :) I love the heat because I like to be outdoors as much as possible.
12" of rain a year works for me too.

Back to the original question posted by Chris,
What is the reason for the change in specification from Rotax?

Also, what does Rotax recommend for the old style cylinder heads?
