here are some photos of the mechanical gauge showing the fluctuations.you can see by the blur of the needle how erratic it was

Bill will check oil lines again but we replaced every oil line earlier in this EPIC journey.

In my case, there were no air leaks in the suction side hoses, since the hoses were traded out during our tests. Could there be some cavitation in the oil tank causing air to enter the system there? It would be interesting to put a clear plastic tube in series with the suction side of the pump and make a ground run to see if there are bubbles. That would prove or rule out the "air in line" theory.

I don't think it will be the actual hoses that are leaking as much as where the hoses meet the fittings.
    Did you reuse the fittings?
The fitting to the Oil Tank connection is a metal-on-metal compression fitting.
If it is not on dead-square and tight it will not seal.
Also being a high spot and a suction line, it may not reveal itself with an oil leak.

You might verify the hoses by pressurizing the oil tank through the vent line under the filler cap.
~5-10 psi is all that should be needed. Do NOT attach an unregulated 100psi compressor hose!
A repeat of the Oil hose Purging Procedure except with all the hoses attached.

I too would love to see what the oil looks like with engine running.
I suspect the Oil is not the water clear fluid we would like to believe.
I would think that while the big bubbles are separated out in the oil tank,
The micro bubbles will remain suspended in the oil giving it a milky appearance as it returns to the engine.
It is not of any concern, just a curiosity.

If you removed the oil tank guts for a cleaning recently make sure the plate at the bottom of the tank is turned up in the correct position. This can affect oil flow.
