    Hi Stephen

That sounds great, I'm glad to hear it. All the problems are with the 912s unfortunately. The 912 will just purr along forever.

    Cheers Mark

    Hi Stephen,

If you have removed your Soft Start Module, and it is the 4 pin variety, I could be in the market for it for my 912ULS. If you are interested in selling, please email me at rjdawson14_at_gmail_dot_com

    Regards

    Hi Robert

The soft start on my 912 is part of the ignition modules, and I have only disconnected the trigger wire I may even reconnect it in the winter months if I have trouble starting the 912, so sorry I can't really help.

Why disconnect it? It is there to help relieve the startup stress on the engine.

Because I still can't understand why the engine has to rattle for about 6 seconds with the timing completely wrong and after the delay the engine then runs smoothly. My old 912ul didn't have the soft start and always started within a couple of seconds and ran smoothly. Now I have disconnected the soft start which in the manual states is optional I prefer this engine starting the same way as my old 912ul.

I may be wrong to do this, but sitting in the plane watching everything shake for such a long time before the timing reverts to normal and the engine then runs smoothly seems unnecessary on the 912ul.

Not to mention the horrified look on my passengers faces when this brand new engine which cost an absolute fortune starts up and causes the airframe on my 701 to rattle for so long (the six to eight seconds seems like an age while i fiddle with the choke and throttle) and when I consider the 1997 Valkyrie motorbike I have which has a six cylinder engine with six individual carburetors and it starts with zero vibration and purrs into life and the modern high performance bike i have which also starts with zero vibration I tend to feel a bit sorry for them having to listen to such a racket before there first trip in a light plane.

I realise I don't understand all the reasoning behind the Rotax soft start and there engines but they seem to have a lot of issues with starting and parts breaking, so I guess this is all part of it however after Ten years between buying a 912ul I don't think the word progress should be used!

Its only my opinion, and as I say i'm probably wrong.
