Hi guys, I looked everywhere but I couldn't find an explanation. I get "Error 68" whenever I run the TLR46 and select the COM port. I have done everything described in the video and more (whatever I found here in the forum).
- I bought an FTDI chip serial-to-usb cable;
- selected it to be on COM1;
- unplugged and then plugged it again and checked the settings (all is good);
- I run the TLR46 (as per TCU model) in dosbox;
- it opens up and asks for a video adapter;
- I select VGA;
- then it asks for a comport and when I select com1;
- it beeps and displays the message "Error 68" and terminates the program.

Can anyone tell me what does that error code mean and how to possibly fix it? It also doesn't matter if I do it while connected to the TCU, or not.

Thanks

    I don't know if TLR was coded in VBA or not - but I suspect you are getting this error:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa232020(v=vs.60).aspx

    if so: Could be faulty USB hardware, or something astray in the virtual comm port settings. If you have a null modem cable for RS232 (easy to make!) you could try hooking up a known good machine and see if they can communicate over the comm ports using some simple terminal programs...

    ALSO - a lot of the time the USB com port doesn't really configure to COM1 at all - but defaults off to Com11 or something. Maybe you can try using COM2 instead?

    The operating system usually assigns the COM Port Number to the USB/232 adapter as it is inserted. COM1 is highly unlikely.
    The assigned number often appears to be random or loosely related to which USB port the adapter is plugged into.
    Move the adapter and the COM Port number changes. And Not sequentially.

    Drill down to the Device Manager and see what COMM Ports exist before plugging in the adapter, The one that appears after insertion is the adapter number.

    Thanks everyone! I managed to solve the issue. I was running the whole thing under Windows 10 using DosBox emulation ( just as it is given for x64 systems in the manuals download page). And that seemed to be the problem. (wild guess follows) the dosbox must have interpreted the serial cable to be plugged in on the initially assigned com port, so no matter what I did in device manager of windows to change it to com1, the software must have read it as com3 or something else - hence the error. As RotaxOwner Admin correctly pointed out in his response that error meant something wrong with the hardware of the connection (the cable, or port) or the connection itself missing, which would be the case if the software did not detect the cable at com1 or com2.

    So, the solution - clean install a 32 bit version of Windows 7 (mine was Ultimate N x86) on a spare HDD. Since I was using a cable by FTDI called Chipi-X I had to download additional drivers in order for the computer to recognize it as a serial port and not some "Other Device". http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm - Here you can find in the Comments section when you scroll down an executable file for Windows. Just download and install. The computer will immediately recognize the cable attached. Then just go to device manager and properties of the serial port device. go to advanced settings of the port tab and select the port to be COM1. Click apply and ok. Close everything and start up the software. Everything should be working. If someone has any problems or questions, feel free to pm me. I will gladly help with whatever I can.

    Thanks again for all the help!

    Looks Like I managed to get it to work using Windows10. Installed a Trendnet USB to Serial adapter and in the Dos window had to manually run the EXE file. Got the software to load, just do not know how to use it. Are you aware of an operator manual for the TCU software.

    Would appreciate your help.

    @SeanDuToit I remember seeing some sort of manual on how to use the software, however I will need a few days to look for it. I will let you know as soon as I find some info. I'd just ask you for a little patience, since I am abroad now, and might not be able to react as quickly as I'd like.
