What is the best way to drain the coolant when the radiator is mounted below the engine? I understand to use the drain plug on the water pump, but as far as i can tell there is no drain plug on the radiator (???). It makes for a messy job to get the coolant out of the radiator.

Remove the lowest coolant hose serving the radiator. Open the top-most port on the system to break the vacuum.

You can use the bottom screw on the water pump, but in some aircraft it's too hard to get to and it doesn't get it all out.
Try this. I do this all the time. Pull the lower hose off the radiator and let it drain into your pan then remove the expansion tank cap and a lot more will come out. Now drape a rag over the hose end that you moved to the side and the radiator stub out. Then cup your hand around the expansion tank neck and blow down through it 4-5 times real hard. This will evacuate practically everything throughout the entire system. The rag keeps it from spraying all over. Works well and it's fast and easy.

    p.s..
If your old like me after you blow 4-5 times real hard you made need to stop for some oxygen. LOL
