Hi all,

New owner of eagle ea-100!
My plane was just delivered and I only flew it a couple hrs when I noticed a leak at the oil pump inlet nipple (bottom left brass fitting in attached pick)

By twisting the hose, the nipple would move.
So I tightened it with a wrench. It tightened until it bottomed out. Seems like it needs a washer, but the parts diagram only shows loctite.

How did the nipple get loose if the hose was clamped tight? Wouldn't that prevent it from loosening?

Should that nipple be able to bottom out?

I'm leaning towards it being cracked due to the above...does this make sense?

Does any one have experience or knowledge of this and can point me in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

The parts diagram does not call out Locktite.
It calls for 14x18mm Copper Washer #230387.
See Parts catalog, Section 79-20-00, Page 6, Item #12

    Thx bill,

I have #11 on the parts diagram, the way I read it is that the nipple mist be pipe thread and not call for a washer?

Or are you suggesting that I use the washer, part 12?

    Thx

Heavy maint manual 79-00-00 Page 12 shows loctite 243 (no gasket)

item #11 (NIPPLE 13.2/9.5-M14x1.5) is the Barbed Nipple option.
It is Not a Tapered Pipe Thread. it is M14x1.5 straight thread.

They show the #12 washer on parts #13 and #14 which are the same thread.
I think they forgot to include it on the #11 fitting. The documentation is not perfect.

A drop of Purple or Blue Locktite might make you sleep better.
Locktite is not called out because the threads need to be Oil-free when applying the Locktite.

The concern at this fitting is not the oil leaking out.
This is a suction line and will be leaking AIr into the Oil flow when the engine is running.
it only leaks Oil; when the engine is stopped.

    EDIT:
    Thanks Rob!
You posted while I was still composing.
I will let my comments stand but defer to Heavy Manual.
A Washer or Locktite or Both will all solve the problem.

    Thx Rob and Bill,

I will hopefully get a chance to take it off tomorrow and make sure the female fitting on the pump and male threads on the nipple aren't cracked, split or messed up. If I don't see anything and the threads are m14, I like the "both" idea to make sure it's not an issue again.

    Just had a thought...
Didn't the oil pump housing change to m14?
I think I remember reading somewhere the threads were different originally?

If they aren't m14 and I can't find any cracks, should I still do the washer and loctite?

I must have the worst luck...
When I looked at it and a&p did prebuy, there was nothing.
Ferry pilot dropped it off after 8hr flight and it's leaking...
With the hose and hose clamp in it, it couldn't have loosened. It's a 2007 with 422 hours on it.

    Thx again!
