Rotax used the Bing floats for many years until they started to sink. Rotax had to outsource other floats and went through several variations and manufacturers until they were able to find ones that finally worked... The R floats
The new carb I just got last week does not have the R floats. The carb I replaced did have the R floats that were not heavy 3,2 each. So it looks like I will be looking at heavy floats in the future?

Dave, I guess the first question is... who sold you the "new" carb??
Second question is... what did you do with the old one?
If you leave non-R floats in, you are just asking for a problem down the road, IMO. I would consider installing R floats as "preventative maintenance".

I got the carb from the only place that had one Lockwood.
I almost never throw old parts away, includes old carb.
I will be switching them in the near future, wish this had came up a few days ago before installation. I had not seen it clearly defined which carb float was the most current by markings on the float.
Thanks
