Water temp gauge on a 912UL
I'm a new owner of a 912UL and setting up engine monitoring system. I have 2 CHT probes but no actual engine coolant probe. Should there be a probe and if so how is it implemented.

If it is a newer engine then they measure the water in the cylinder head. On older engines then the cylinder head sensor measure the aluminum. you can see in the engine paper whether it is one or the other.

Hello Bobby
An easy way to tell if you have CHT or Coolant temp is where the sensors are mounted. On the older version heads the sensors, bottom of cylinder head #2 and #3, measure CHT. On the newer version they changed and now use the same sender but it is mounted into the top of the heads into a coolant chamber therefore they are coolant temp readings. Be sure to match your gauge and know the slight difference between the readings.
If you have the old version, CHT, normally you do not require coolant temp as they are related.
Cheers

Bobby,
This video shows the difference between the old- and new-style cylinder heads (the temperature-sensor differences are shown at about 2:00):

Assuming yours is a new engine, you will not be measuring CHT, but actual coolant temp. (same sensors). Note that the max temp for coolant is about 30ºC less than the max temp for CHT was on the 912 UL (see minute 5:00 of the video, and Operator's Manual, section 2.1)
Regards,
Tyler
